Preparing for the Unexpected: My Medical Kit and Training

In the world of ocean rowing, preparation is key—not just for navigation and weather, but also for health and safety. That’s why I’m taking my medical readiness seriously by utilising Trauma Med Services for my onboard medical kit. This comprehensive kit is tailored for the unique challenges of being at sea, equipping me with essential supplies to address a range of medical situations.

To further enhance my preparedness, I’ll be undergoing trauma training with Crux. While not all the training will be directly applicable to ocean rowing, gaining a deeper understanding of trauma care will empower me to handle emergencies confidently. Knowing how to use the equipment in my kit effectively is crucial, as the ocean can be unpredictable.

Some of the main causes of injury I need to be aware of include burns from the Jetboil, sunburn and sunstroke from prolonged exposure, poor hygiene leading to issues like UTIs and thrush, and not treating salt sores properly. Understanding how to prevent and treat these common ailments is essential to maintaining my health on this journey.
With this upgraded knowledge, I’ll be better equipped to respond to injuries, manage first aid, and maintain my health during the voyage. Whether it’s treating a minor cut or understanding the principles of more serious trauma care, the skills I acquire will provide peace of mind as I embark on this incredible adventure.

By combining a robust medical kit with enhanced training, I’m ensuring that I’m as prepared as possible for whatever challenges may come my way on the open sea.
