Boat

Visiting the Rannoch R10

So, I finally got to see the Rannoch R10 ocean rowing boat in person, and let me tell you, it was a moment. Walking into that shed and laying eyes on the boat for the first time really made everything sink in. It’s one thing to dream about taking on the ocean, but it’s a whole other ball game when you’re staring down the vessel that’s supposed to get you across it.

Its getting real
Seeing the R10 up close was a bit of a wake-up call. There it was, all sleek and shiny, looking like something straight out of a high-tech adventure magazine. And here I am, thinking, “Wow, this is actually happening.” It’s like the difference between talking about going on a roller coaster and actually strapping in. Suddenly, you’re not just talking; you’re about to do it.

First impressions
The R10? It’s impressive. You can really tell a lot of thought went into designing this thing to handle some serious ocean. Running my hand along it, I couldn’t help but respect the craftsmanship. It’s sturdy, but also kind of elegant in its own way. Made me feel a bit more confident about the whole thing, knowing this was what would be keeping me afloat.

History of this particular boat
On December 12th 2022, Lara (This Girl Rows ) set off on her ocean rowing journey across the Atlantic. She did a very similar route to what I will be doing and she is the 2d person to row this particular boat. She completed her challenge in 98 days, dedicating it to her father who has since passed. She said that he was known for going above and beyond and his presence out there was felt all the way! Lara has become a wonderful friend and inspiration for me and I feel the responsibility to carry this boat from start to finish with pride and to do it justice!

Ready for the adventure
Leaving the shed that day, everything felt a bit more real. I was excited, nervous, and a bit giddy all at once. It’s not every day you decide to row across the ocean, right? But seeing the boat, touching it, it all clicked.

This isn’t just some far-off plan anymore; it’s what I’m doing. And honestly? I can’t wait to get started on training out at sea. This boat and I? We’re going to have quite the story to tell.

Sharing my blogs and challenge would be a massive help :)
