Matthew was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, and started writing screenplays after graduating high school. Although initial responses to his stories were positive, he realised that his ideas worked better as traditional books and began his journey as an author.

He would give out his children's books as gifts to his friends and family and these stories would go on to be his first published works. Matthew lives in Ballarat with his wife and their two black cats.
